Emília Mendes (connoisseur of tea) and Vreni Gutmann (swiss with chocolate in her blood) created a great little shop in Lagos, selling a superb range of home-made chocolates, from Beja in the Alentejo, with fillings that you are unlikely to find elsewhere - medronho, for example. There's also a wide variety of Belgian chocolates, including a diabetic range.

As well as chocolates, 1000 Sabores stocks a selection of wines, flavoured oils and fondue sets, with separate pots of fondue chocolate. A huge range of teas is available, including caffeine-free varieties, plus teapots, cups and saucers, mugs and storage canisters for leaves or bags. There's a smaller selection of coffees. Jams, relishes, Mrs. Bridges preserves and cookies, as well as honey - with or without extra ingredients like almonds - are also in stock.
